Life of Pi

Recently I have decided that I need to broaden my skills as a 23 year-old girl and make something more useful of myself post-college.  I have decided it is time to make some goals and so I am putting them up for the world to see so that I will have some accountability to live up to.  These are for starters:

1. Read a new book every month
2. Learn a 2 new songs on the guitar a month
3. Exercise 3 times a week.

Okay, those are my first baby steps.  So I have started reading "Life of Pi" and it is a pretty good book.  For those of you who may have read "The Alchemist" and loved it, then you will enjoy this read as well.  Both books are very simple but contain little blurbs of enlightenment on life.  Nothing grand happens in either book, so if you are looking for excitement, magic and romance, you may need to look elsewhere, but they are both enjoyable reads.  One thing that turned me onto reading "Life of Pi" was a former visiting teaching companion that I had.  We talked about how we like to look at life and each experience as an adventure and how that mentality helps us feel like we are living a life of pure excitement, especially when somethings get to be the everyday mundane.  In this book, one of the themes is "adventure beckons."  How even though bad or scary things happen, we must dare to explore and take ourselves for the best ride.  So that is my book report for today.  I'll let yo know how my goals are going.  So far, so good.

Thanks for your comment on my blog (I just found it). Now I know where to find you!

I love your new goals--all a good use of your time. Be sure to read a Jane Austen every now and then.

Also--let me know Lara's blog address. I would love to drop her a line.

The Latest...

Recently, I packed up my Western self and moved out East to a little place called Virginia. My parents relocated out here about 2 years ago, so it was time I check out VA for myself. It is in the DC metro area, so we spend lots of fun time in the city or in the country. I am still working as a pediatric nurse and looking to maybe move towards the non-profit or political side of health care. I gained a new family member in the form of a Chinese exchange student named Donna, and I love being with my parents again. Life is good.
